You may have noticed that the Derbyshire Lives Through the First World War Project has been a little quiet of late. This is because the first phase of the project has now come to an
end. However we are currently busy working on creating a lasting record of the wonderful events that have happened across Derbyshire where communities have come together to commemorate the First World War.
We’ll be creating an exhibition to tour around the county detailing some of the many stories that feature in Derbyshire Lives through the First World War.
Our website will see a major revamp with additional pages showcasing events that have occurred across Derbyshire. We’ll be creating a more visual timeline where we can add local stories to compliment the national events. You’ll be able to see an overview of just what has happened in Derbyshire to commemorate the First World War, with details on all the major Heritage Lottery Funded Projects that occurred as well as of many of the non-HLF funded activities as we can find. We’ll be creating a map where you can see at a glance just where in the county activities took place and find information straight from there.
Of course just because our active involvement in local projects has now come to an end, it doesn’t mean at all that local communities are no longer doing anything to commemorate the First World War.
We still want to be able to offer guidance to anyone wanting to set up their own project so we’ll be including pages giving advice on topics ranging from how to apply for funding, how to carry out your research and also include contacts to other projects so you can get practical hands on advice. We’re sure that this information will be helpful to anyone wanting to develop a heritage project not just for those about the First World War.Events will continue up until the climax in 2018 with the centenary of the end of the conflict.
We hope that you find all of this as exciting as we do. We’ll be working on this until the end of the year and we’ll keep you posted as to developments. If you’ve been involved in a project and want to be included then please do get in touch.
