Wirksworth: When t’owd man faced t’Kaiser

With a £8600 Heritage Lottery Fund grant the Wirksworth Glee Club wanted to research and acknowledge Wirksworth’s role in the First World War.

Local film maker Gavin Repton made his 60 minute film ‘When t’owd man faced t’Kaiser’ relating the stories about the people of Wirksworth, from the men who went to fight to how the war effected everyday life in the town.  The film has interviews with local people, drama and music. It was premiered at Wirksworth Town Hall with further screenings at Wirksworth’s Northern Light Cinema.
