New Mills: St Mary’s Primary School

In New Mills, St Mary’s Primary School took advantage of the offer from the Woodland Trust’s First World War Centenary Woods project which donated over 3 million trees to schools, community groups and youth groups for planting to commemorate the centenary of the Great War.

Children from the school planted the cherry trees in their school grounds in following on from their studies on the First World War. The area was chosen as somewhere where the children could sit and reflect quietly.
