Mills, Mines and Murder: A Bretby Estate Walk

South Derbyshire District Council’s Environmental Education Project was awarded £9,800 by the Heritage Lottery Fund to create South Derbyshire World War 1 commemorative walks, trails and school packs on local parks.

As part of this ‘Mills, mines and murder: a Bretby estate walk’ was created by Dorothy Morson with support from the Magic Attic. The figure of eight walk goes through Swadlincote, Midway and Bretby estate looking at the history of the area.

History trail and walk leaflets are available from Swadlincote Tourist Information Centre, based at Sharpe’s Pottery Museum, or are downloadable from the South Derbyshire District Council First World War Centenary page.
