Littleover Commemoration Trail

This was a combined community project with Littleover Historical Society, St. Peter’s Church Littleover, and presented by Littleover in Bloom.

The research done by the History Society was to trace men of Littleover, who lived locally and lost their lives during the First World War. From this information a commemoration trail, covering 12 houses in the village was produced.  With the householder’s permission a commemoration plaque was erected in the garden or window, where the soldier had previously lived.

A main booklet was published entitled ‘Littleover War Memorials’, written by Chris Drury, a member of the History group and of the Royal British Legion, Littleover section.

St. Peter’s Church hosted a flower Festival, with 24 depictions of various themes with connections to WW1.  This was described in a second booklet – ‘Commemoration and Contemplation’.

A third booklet was created as an activity book for children, containing colouring pages, a quiz and a word search.

Adding to Littleover’s commemoration the students of Derby Moor School planted 2kg of poppy seeds to create a remembrance bank along the school playing field.
