Dronfield: Friends of Dronfield Station
The Friends of Dronfield Station (FoDS) is a volunteer group which looks after their local railway station and campaigns for better rail services to the town. The group researched the Great War and produced a series of six posters which were displayed at the station. They researched general themes about the war and how local people were involved. Each poster had a reference to local people who served in the armed forces, including some Midland Railway employees.
The posters were passed on to the Old Dronfield Society after the exhibition where, and were taken to Germany for a short while for an exhibition at Dronfield’s twin town, Sindelfingen.
Some of the research relied on the work done by two local historians, Kate and David Ollerenshaw, who followed up the stories of every service person named on the various war memorials (First and Second) in Dronfield. This research was published in a book called Neither Silent nor Faceless, giving a detailed account of each person’s service history, medals and how they met their death.
