Chesterfield Poppy Project

Chesterfield Borough Council Sustainability Officer, Peter Corke, put together a pack for primary schools in the Borough to help commemorate the local men who fought in the First World War.

The pack contained poppy seeds, instructions for growing wild flowers, bee and field plant identification charts, a bug box, bug viewer and a commemorative plaque to mark the area where the seeds were sown and inform people of the project.

The aim was to engage children with the idea of protecting nature and the environment through the planting of commemorative poppies. The plaque reads: ‘Through nature we see regeneration and remember their sacrifice for us.’
