Belper Arts Festival

With help from the Derbyshire Lives Through the First World War project and £3200 funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Belper  Arts Festival created a musical comedy/drama set against the backdrop of the First World War. The Thankful Village features that World War One rarity – a village where all the men who left to fight returned home. The play was performed during the festival in 2014 and again in 2016.

Adrian Farmer put together research on Belper in the Great War and produced his book ‘Belper in Wartime: outbreak of the Great War’ which was written as a resource for schoolchildren.  40 copies were distributed free of charge to all Belper and Milford primary schools.
